EFCC states that Mompha is wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has sought Nigeria’s popular Instagram celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, aka Mompha.

It urged Nigerians with information on Mompha’s whereabouts to come forward or contact the nearest police station.

The anti-graft agency made the announcement via its Twitter account on Wednesday.

“Wanted by the EFCC: Ismaila Mustapha. Anyone with useful information regarding their whereabouts should contact the EFCC or the nearest police station,” the EFCC wrote.

The anti-graft agency had sued Mompha and his company, Ismalob Global Investment Ltd, for alleged fraud.

EFCC accused the celebrity and his company of N6 billion fraud on January 12.

In a new eight-count indictment, the EFCC charged Mompha with conspiring to launder funds obtained through illegal activities and laundering funds obtained through illegal activities.

Others include withholding the proceeds of a criminal act, using property from an unlawful act, possessing a document that contains a false pretense, and failing to disclose assets and property.

He was remanded in custody by the EFCC but was later placed on N200 million bail which he was unable to meet.

On June 10, the commission accused the celebrity of flouting a court order and traveling to Dubai on a new passport.

On June 22, a court in Lagos revoked the bail he had been granted due to his absence from the trial.
