EPL: I'm frustrated - Lampard reacts to Everton's 1-0 loss to Chelsea

Everton manager Frank Lampard has expressed his frustration after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Chelsea.

The Toffees started their campaign with a defeat at Goodison Park thanks to Jorginho’s first-half penalty.

Lampard praised the depth in his former team’s squad but felt Everton deserved to come out of the game with something.

He told reporters: “I’m frustrated, but not in terms of our performance. I thought we were really good. Chelsea want to tear you apart and we’ve never let them do that – apart from one tiny mistake that decided the game.

“I thought the guys gave it their all. Thanks to the fans who were there before the game. The atmosphere during the game was great. I thought our boys played their part.

“Look at the benches – Chelsea can make changes but there haven’t been that many changes we could make in those front areas.

“Anthony [Gordon] was generally the focus, but [the front three] were mobile. I thought they did it really well. Of course, if you have the number nine, you can score with one of the crosses in the first half.”

On the penalty Lampard said: “I think Chilly is smart but I think Doucoure has a little bit of his arm. The mistake was being pulled slightly out of position as a team.”
