EPL: John Terry reacts as Koulibaly takes his shirt number at Chelsea
Kalidou Koulibaly shared a video on social media asking Chelsea legend John Terry if he could wear his iconic No 26 shirt at Stamford Bridge.
Terry wore the number throughout his 19-year blues career.
During that time he led the Premier League club to five titles, five FA Cups and a Champions League triumph.
Terry also received an honor guard in the 26th minute of his final appearance for the club.
No other player has worn the number 26 since Terry’s departure in 2017, but Koulibaly will inherit the digits following his summer transfer from Napoli.
In one video, the former Napoli defender can be seen on the phone with Terry, asking if the No. 26 shirt the Senegalese international wore at Napoli has been retired at Stamford Bridge.
“The 26 was very special to me, I really appreciate you calling.
“It’s no problem for me that you take it, absolute pleasure. I wish you all the best because I know how important the number was to me and I saw that you wear 26 too.
“My pleasure, mate, I’ll give you the 26.”
Terry then adds:
“No pressure mate. You go and keep winning trophies for us.”
