Manchester United are targeting the sale of six defenders before the current summer transfer window closes on September 1 as new manager Erik ten Hag continues to restructure his squad.

According to Sportsmail, the likes of Alex Telles, Eric Baily, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Ethan Laird and Phil Jones are all welcome to leave Old Trafford.

The arrival of Tyrell Malacia to rival Luke Shaw has pushed Telles, who is attracting interest from Seville, towards the door.

Wan-Bissaka is the player Man United would likely lose the most money on.

The former Crystal Palace star cost the Red Devils £50million in 2019 but he hasn’t got off to the start as expected.

Crystal Palace are interested in returning Wan-Bissaka on loan and it seems that is the most likely market for the right-back.

Jones, who made an impressive return to Man United’s line-up last season, may also leave.

His former team-mate and now DC United manager Wayne Rooney is reportedly keen to get him into MLS.

Bailly is another player Man United would have liked to have had some money back, but injuries have hampered his time at Old Trafford.

The Ivory Coast international, who Man United signed from Villarreal in 2016 for £30m, is believed to be attracting the interest of AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile, players like Laird and Tuanzebe will also play elsewhere next season, but the former won’t be permanent.

Laird, who joined Bournemouth on loan in the second half of last season, will join Watford in the Championship on loan and that deal is all but done, while Tuanzebe is expected to attract interest from newly promoted Bournemouth.
