Joke Silva is a veteran Nollywood actress, producer, businesswoman, entrepreneur, investor and television personality. She is the wife of legendary Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs. She was born on September 29, 1961 in Lagos State, south-western Nigeria to a family of four children. She is currently 61 years old. Her late mother, Adebimbola Silva, was a doctor and died in July 2015 while her father was a lawyer.

In the early 1990’s Joke Silva started her professional acting career and joined the Nigerian film industry popularly known as Nollywood and starred in her first film Mind Bending. Since then she has acted in several Nollywood films. She has been described as one of the best actresses in Nigeria. She mainly starred as a mother, wife, grandmother and mother-in-law in several Nollywood films.

Joke Silva is the lovely wife of famous Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs and both have been rated as the hottest couples in Nollywood. Joke Silva has acted in over 250 Nollywood films including Phone Swap, The Secret Laughter of Women, Last Wedding, White Waters, Women’s Cot, The Amazing Grace, Letters to a Stranger, Tango with me, 30 Days, Kada River, Married but Living Single, The Grave Dust, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Timeless, The Visitors, Bandits, Potato Potahto and more.

Joke Silva completed her primary education in Lagos State, Nigeria and received her first school leaving certificate. After completing her primary education, Joke Silva attended Holy Child College in Lagos State, Nigeria and earned her West African Senior School Certificate.

After completing her primary and secondary education, Joke Silva went to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English. After earning her first degree in English from the University of Lagos, Joke Silva completed her tertiary education at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, UK, where she studied acting.

In 1998 she had a major film role opposite Colin Firth and Nia Long in the British-Canadian film The Secret Laughter of Women. In 2006 she won Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2nd Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in Women’s Cot.

In 1985, Joke Silva married famed Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs and the marriage is blessed with two adult children and one grandchild. However, the couple met in 1981 at the National Theater in Lagos, Nigeria, during the 21st anniversary of independence. The couple founded and operated the Lufodo Group, which includes film production and distribution, and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, where she is the director of studies.


In 2008, Joke Silva won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role as Grandmother in the film White Waters. She is one of the most gifted, creative, skillful and talented actresses in Nigeria and has a good command of English. She is very good at interpreting her roles and can fit into any character given to her by film directors and producers.

Joke Silva is Executive Director of the Malete Film Village in association with Kwara State University. In October 2012, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime appointed Joke Silva as a Goodwill Ambassador. In line with the United Nations policy of attracting prominent figures from the arts, music, film, sport and literature to support its campaigns, Joke Silva’s role has focused on her participation in the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria.

In addition to her work as an actress, Joke Silva is also a philanthropist and a strong supporter of women’s emancipation and empowerment, which contributes to their education, training and advancement. In September 2016 she was introduced as a brand ambassador for AIICO Pension Managers Limited (APML).

On September 29, 2014, Joke Silva was honored by the Nigerian Government as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), one of the Nigerian National Honors Awards presented at the International Conference Center in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, the highest honor for celebrities in Nigeria .

Joke Silva currently has an estimated net worth of $1.7 million which makes her one of the richest and most influential actresses in Nigeria.
