Cryptocurrency investment firm seeks exceptional hire to work closely with COO on operations/investor relations projects serving as integral member of finance team. Will lead monthly/quarterly accounting close processes for management company/fund vehicles, reconcile cryptocurrencies within exchanges/wallets/custodians, and work closely with third parties (fund administrator, tax/audit, OTC and custodians). Must have strategic mindset regarding cryptocurrency financial reporting landscape (staking as related to tax structures/blockers).
Responsibilities:
Fund/management company financial reporting: reconciliation of internal accounting systems, cryptocurrency and fiat balances; support creation of monthly/quarterly valuation memos; review of monthly/quarterly fund reporting pack provided by fund administrator; review of purchase agreements/SAFTs/SAFEs for valuation/reporting; manage internal shadow books for each fund; evaluate current financial/accounting processes and implement improvements; lead production of financial information required for RIA filing requirements alongside Controller; manage daily fund banking operations such as wire transfers/ACH processing; ensure financial reporting is in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards/regulatory requirements; manage cash flow/bill pay/budgets/projections for various entities
Operations / Investor Relations: help lead responses to investor inquiries; review/onboard service providers and handle KYC re-certifications; execute and improve processes/internal controls for recordkeeping accuracy; proactively identify control gaps and build processes/controls around them; partner cross-functionally on major new projects/fund vehicles for smooth launches
Tax/Audit Reporting: lead execution of annual tax returns with independent tax accountants for all entities; work with finance team on annual fund audits with independent auditors; review and work with third party fund administrator on year-end financial statements; assist with UK HMRC tax reporting with UK tax provider; assist with preparation/filing of tax matters (K1s, commercial rent tax, state business tax filings, etc.)
Requirements:
6+ years of alternative investment management industry experience (hedge fund, private equity, fund administration, family office, WM, IB, VC); bachelor’s degree in accounting strongly preferred; CPA preferred
Familiarity with cryptocurrencies required; passion for the industry a plus
Prior audit and/or tax experience preferred (prior experience at a Big 4 accounting firm and/or experience in fund administration a plus)
Understanding of GAAP rules and regulations
Strong accounting/analytical and computer skills (Quickbooks/Excel/Google Drive)
Diligent/hard-working/reliable; attention to detail and ability to multi-task; familiarity with federal/state/local tax compliance regulations and reporting requirements; excellent interpersonal/oral/written communication skills; enjoy working in a small/entrepreneurial team; authorized for employment in the United States
The expected base salary for this role will be in the $100-135k range, depending on candidate experience. Total compensation will also include benefits and bonus.
