Departmental Overview
The Berkeley Center for Responsible, Decentralized Intelligence (RDI) is a multidisciplinary campus-wide initiative, focusing on advancing the science, technology and education of decentralization and empowering a responsible digital economy. The RDI Center currently includes faculty and students from computer science, finance/economics, and law, and will support 3 pillars: research, education, and community / entrepreneurship.
Research areas include foundations for next generation decentralization technologies including scalability, usability, provable security guarantees, auditable privacy, incentive compatibility, systemic stability, and decentralized systems and intelligence, decentralized governance, and responsible innovation / regulation guidance, etc.
Besides advancing the science, technology and education in this space, responsible innovation is a key aspect of the Center’s mission and goals, where the Center will explore new approaches for analyzing and understanding the societal impact of decentralized systems, and help ensure that decentralization technologies will be used in a responsible way to help protect the welfare of individuals and society, protect privacy, level the playing field and empower innovation, promote fairness, inclusiveness, ethics, and explore legal frameworks to support innovation and regulation compliance.
RDI will continue to build upon UC Berkeley’s strong foundation and leadership in these areas, as recently recognized and noted below:

RDI will also act as a hub and platform for collaborations globally with other organizations and researchers, as exemplified in leading the first Decentralized Finance MOOC with thousands of students enrolled from over 30 countries. In addition, RDI embraces Open Source, given the spirit of web3 and decentralization technology, and work funded by RDI will in general be in the public domain as publications and open source code.
The Program Manager for RDI will manage partnerships with donors to advance academic research and student engagement, technical development, and innovation in blockchain, cryptocurrency and digital payments. Project areas include faculty, graduate and undergraduate research grants, experiential learning opportunities, campus events and student activities, on the diverse applications of blockchain. The initiative will engage a broad range of campus wide, multidisciplinary stakeholders working in the blockchain space and requires building and managing relationships with diverse faculty, departments and schools across UC Berkeley. Reporting to the Deputy Director of RDI, the Program Manager will work closely with the Faculty Directors of RDI to allocate and manage funds, set strategy and coordinate all aspects of programming to advance partnerships. The Program Manager will also work with the RDI team to advance projects around accessibility of content, RDI conferences and workshop, and management of interns and staff and the RDI Center, in general.
This is a 1-year contract opportunity with the possibility of extension and/or conversion to career.

Responsibilities
40% Program Management
- Work RDI leadership to award research grants, develop programs & activities, and allocate funding per terms of sponsor gift agreements. Ensure the terms and conditions of all awards are met and manage funds in compliance. Conducts financial integrity of funds by reviewing expenditures.
- Identify and engage campus and industry experts to provide thought leadership to ensure programmatic success by incorporating best practices. Develop, implement, and maintain operating policies and procedures.
- Develop an annual strategy and work plan with KPIs (key performance indicators) to document progress and impact to donors.
- Aid in managing supporting staff and directly manage interns for RDI.
30% Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Manage an annual donor budget of $500,000, conducts financial projects to ensure all projects are financially viable.
- Monitor and tracks budged projects to ensure projects are completed within financial parameters.
- Generate financial reports and conducts expenditure analysis and reconciles discrepancies.
- Prepare annual funder report documenting expenditures and programmatic milestones.
20% Internal Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop campus-wide, multi-disciplinary partnerships and opportunities to engage leadership, key faculty, programs, colleges & relevant blockchain student clubs.
- Develop a communications strategy that reflects the partnership and contributions in blockchain research and innovation.
10% Conduct a thorough review of content and lead RDI efforts toward DOJ decree compliance and makes all content accessible.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
- Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
- Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
- A passion and relevant experience for promoting and fostering innovation around fintech, blockchain, cryptocurrency and related fields.
- Have passion for our mission and a strong desire to drive blockchain innovation among a diverse set of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.
- Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $74,300 to $104,400 annually. This 1-year, 100% FTE contract position is eligible for benefits.
