Action Against Hunger began operations in Nigeria in 2010 in response to the high rate of chronic malnutrition in Northern Nigeria, focusing on integrated programming.
In 2011, we expanded our work to begin implementing nutrition development projects in Jigawa and in Yobe. Following the crises in Northeast Nigeria, we further expanded our operations to address the Nutrition, Health, Food security and livelihoods, WASH, and shelter needs of conflict-affected communities.
Action Against Hunger Nigeria programme is supported by FCDO, ECHO, GAC, BHA, SDC, UNICEF, EU, AFD, SIDA and GFFO.
Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of a WASH Programme Manager, who will be responsible to Identify and implement quality, relevant and innovative WASH interventions in accordance with the strategy, ACF and international standards and national policies and guidelines.
Reporting to: Project Coordinator
Proposed start date: September 2023
Work location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Key responsibilities:
- Promote cross-sectoral integration of the WASH sector with other sectors in collaboration with the Project Coordinator;
- To participate, if necessary, in the development of the WASH/NFI/Shelter part of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP) in its area of intervention;
- The inclusion of cross-cutting challenges in WASH responses (Protection, COVID 19, gender, disaster risk management, environment, disability, etc.);
- Identifying and reporting on humanitarian WASH needs in its area of operation;
- Implementation of the WASH program(s) in accordance with the intervention’s logical framework, budget, and ACF’s logistical and administrative procedures. The quality of the programs implemented in accordance with ACF’s technical and project management standards;
- The timely writing of the WASH parts of the external and internal reports to be submitted in connection with the projects to Grants HOD;
- Identification and implementation of safety measures for teams and populations (distribution site, community work site, etc.);
- To equip and use the water quality testing lab;
- Taking lead in Nganzai LGA WASH LGA coordination and contribute to other LGA coordination;
- Coordinating its activities with other sectors and departments of ACF for a rationalized use of resources and maximum integration;
- Participating in donor visits at the request of the Country Director or Field Coordinator;
- Representing ACF and ensuring relations with partners, authorities, UN agencies and NGOs in its sector in collaboration with the Field Coordinator. Contributing to the selection process, formalization and capacity building of partners (local NGO, international NGO, national authorities, private sector, etc.);
- Building the capacity of WASH implementing partners and stakeholders;
- Management of the team (animation, follow-up, motivation);
- Conducting performance evaluation of the team according to HR policy;
- The development of the team training plan.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Public Health related field in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene;
- Knowledge of humanitarian principles, sphere and HAP standards and other international humanitarian WASH guidelines Min. 4 years’ experience as a professional in international NGO context, with a sound knowledge of WASH issues in crisis contexts;
- Good anticipation, planning skill, especially in changing work contexts;
- Problem solving ability; able to enforce procedures;
- Experience communicating in different cultural work environments & with a wide diversity of culture;
- Experience in attending and contributing in meetings with government and other agencies;
- Good communicator: verbal and written. Diplomatic skills are a plus;
- Ability to work with little or no supervision and attention to details;
- Willingness and ability to travel to the field for program monitoring and supportive visits.
