Yemi Eberechi Alade, commonly known as Yemi Alade, is a famous Nigerian Afro pop artist, singer, songwriter, vocalist, recording artist, stage performer, model and a television personality. She has been described as the best female singer in Nigeria and the most followed female celebrity in Nigeria. She was born on March 13, 1989 in Abia State, South East Nigeria but grew up in Lagos State, South West Nigeria. She is currently 33 years old.

Yemi Alade attended St. Savior British Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria and earned her first school leaving certificate. After completing her primary education, Yemi Alade attended Victory Grammar School in Lagos, Nigeria and received her West African Senior School Certificate.

After completing her primary and secondary education, Yemi Alade went to the Federal University of Lagos (UNILAG) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in geography. Yemi Alade started singing when she was a teenager. She sang in her church as a chorister.

Her father’s name is James Alade, he is of Yoruba origin while her mother’s name is Helen Uzoma, she is of Igbo origin. In her opinion, this combination of two ethnic origins makes her a complete Nigerian. Yemi Alade is the fifth of seven children in her family and she is very talented among the others.

In 2009, Yemi Alade started her music career. She came into the limelight after winning the Peak Talent Hunt Show competition in 2009 and became a socialite after releasing her first hit single “Johnny,” which was produced by Sele Bobo. The video for the song “Johnny” has exceeded 200 million views on YouTube.

In 2012, Yemi Alade signed a deal with a record label called Effyzzie Music Group and released her hit single Ghen Ghen Love, produced by Sele Bobo. She rose to prominence in March 2014 after her hit single “Johnny” stormed the internet with currently over 200 million views on YouTube. In November 2017, her hit single “Johnny” racked up 75 million views on YouTube, becoming the internet’s most popular video by an African entertainer.


On October 2nd, 2014, Yemi Alade released her first debut studio album “King of Queens” with hit singles like Johnny, Tangerine and Ghen Ghen Love. She describes herself as a woman of steel.
